GNOSIS CONDOMS

At Gnosis, we decided it was time to rethink lubricant. While our one-of-a-kind color-changing lube seems complex, it is actually just a new application for a naturally occurring phenomenon.

Our unique team of scientists and designers sought to tackle the stigma surrounding STIs by synthesizing existing materials that were already available to us, to create our innovative lubricant.

Sustainably sourced condoms

How does it work?

Did you say cabbage?!

Cabbage

S O U R C I N G

We buy any unwanted or unsold red cabbage from local farmers and markets. Tons of perfectly good produce gets thrown out every day because it isn't blemish-free. We are here to ensure that farmers are being compensated for every cabbage they grow, not just the pretty ones, and to make use of and recycle unsold crops.

The red cabbage is then boiled to isolate the flavin biochrome from the plant material.

The pigment rich stock is then used to create our vegan water-based lubricant that naturally changes color.

Gnosis condoms come in a recycled aluminum package that can be recycled again after the condom is removed.

The condoms are natural rubber and can be composted along with the included disposal bag.

COLORCHANGE

CHEMICAL

COLOR

CHANGE

How does the lubricant change colors?

pH is a measure of the acidity or basicity of a substance, that can be monitored and visualized using pH indicators. Anthocyanins, such as the cyanidin biochromes in red cabbage, are water-soluble pigments that change color depending on the pH of an environment. We use these natural chemical detectors to create our STI responsive lubricant.

The sores produced by STIs like HSV 1&2, syphilis, chancroid and genital warts are more acidic than the unaffected genital skin. So, when our lubricant comes into contact with both skin and sores, the color will change where the sores are in reaction to their differing pH.

Just because you see a color change, does not mean that you absolutely have a STI, it just means that you should probably take the time to get this checked out.

What will you see?

Nothing concerning

Not too concerning

Indicative of STI

No spots, maybe no problem! But we still recommend you go get it checked out!

We make the lube, but where do the condoms come from?

We only partner with condom producers that meet our sustainability standards. The latex condoms are always made from fair trade, non-GMO, organic, vegan rubber.

The wrapper is made from recycled aluminum that can even be recycled again once the condom is removed!

Used condoms can be placed in the provided disposal bag and then composted along with the box

Our whole factory is zero-landfill and our sustainability team is working hard to make us totally zero-waste in the next 5 years!
